Day 6: The cerrado of the Chapada des Guimareas

Home Biota: what is it? Animals Plants Mammals Birds Insects NL EN

Today we drove and walked through the cerrado. The cerrado is a South American form of savanna, mostly consisting of low, dry forests interspersed with vast grasslands. We are going to explore the cerrados under threatening skies. During the walks, we spot a pheasant cuckoo, a bird that is rarely seen. Unfortunately, it rained us out. According to the guide, rain in September is very unusual. The group did another afternoon walk, but I rested.
